Gene McCarthy grew up in Tidewater Virginia where his time on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries instilled a deep appreciation for the natural world. During an internship in Washington D.C, he had a chance to attend the BP Oil Spill hearings which inspired him to pursue a career in environmental law.  He earned his B.A. in political science from the University of South Carolina. Gene recently spent his summer working with Wilderness Watch to protect designated wilderness areas in the U.S.. In his free time, he is either climbing, fly fishing or scheming up his next backpacking trip.
