Welcome to the 42nd Public Interest Environmental Law Conference!

Land Air Water is excited to announce the 42nd annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC), held in Eugene, Oregon from Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3, 2024.

For the past 42 years, over 5,000 concerned people from across the globe have come together in Eugene for the oldest and largest public interest environmental law conference in the world. Land Air Water, a wholly volunteer student group at the University of Oregon School of Law, hosts the event. The Conference attracts activists, advocates, attorneys, scientists, government officials, and concerned citizens together to share information and strategies that will more effectively further the goals of environmental and social justice. It puts ideas into action, sparks renewed commitment to the protection of the environment across borders and has inspired the creation of public interest environmental and human rights organizations.

While making the initial decisions for this upcoming PIELC, the CCDs made the call to shorten the conference by one day in order to put our time, energy, and other resources towards making Friday, Saturday, and Sunday more robust. We will extend the programming on Sunday slightly to allow for a similar number of panels as a typical PIELC, and we will still host the career fair and allow organizations to set up their tables on Thursday.

  • This year’s theme is “Cultivating Community.” Through this theme, we hope to celebrate the achievements of diverse leaders in the environmental movement in addition to building the foundation of a more inclusive, community-based approach to the environmental challenges our world is facing. The organizers of PIELC are committed to hosting an inclusive event that celebrates diversity, opposes injustice of all forms, and acknowledges the connection between oppression and environmental destruction, more than ever before.

We are seeking each panel to be diverse and inclusive. Please feel free to share this email and submission form with friends, colleagues, and anyone else you want to see involved in PIELC.
